Replace Missing Teeth With Dental Implants

What Are Dental Implants?

A natural tooth consists of a root and a crown. When comparing natural teeth to implant-supported replacements, you will see they have the same basic structure. Both have a crown, which is the visible part used for chewing, and a root that anchors the tooth securely under the gum. The main difference is that a dental implant is made of titanium, a material commonly used in medical procedures such as artificial joints.

When a tooth is lost, both the root and the crown are missing. To replace it, a surgeon first inserts a small dental implant to serve as the new root. The surrounding bone heals and bonds with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for the artificial tooth. Once the implant has integrated with the bone, a support post (abutment) is attached, and a custom-made replacement tooth (crown) is placed on top. In some cases, a temporary crown can be placed immediately after the implant procedure.

For patients missing all their teeth, multiple treatment options are available to restore their smile with implant-supported replacements.

The Types Of Dental Implants

Single Tooth Implant

Replaces one missing tooth. Consists of a single implant post topped with a custom crown. Preserves surrounding teeth and prevents bone loss.

Implant-Supported Bridge

Replaces multiple missing teeth in a row. Uses two or more implants to support a permanent bridge. Eliminates the need for a removable partial denture.

Full Mouth Bridge

Replaces an entire arch of missing teeth (upper or lower). Typically requires 4-6 implants to support a fixed bridge. Provides a stable and permanent alternative to traditional dentures.

Implant-Supported Dentures

Replaces all teeth in the upper or lower jaw. Uses 2-4 implants to secure a removable denture. Offers improved stability and comfort compared to conventional dentures.

All-on-4® Implants

A full-arch restoration using only four implants. Ideal for patients with significant bone loss. Provides a fixed, non-removable solution for complete tooth replacement.

Dental Implants Affordability

It’s well known that dental implants can be a significant investment, often costing thousands of dollars, but many people may not realize there are ways to make them more affordable. While most insurance plans do not fully cover dental implants, some may provide partial coverage. It’s always a good idea to check with your provider to understand what is included in your plan.

Financing options and payment plans can also make dental implants more manageable. By spreading the cost over time, you can enjoy the long-term benefits of a restored smile without the financial burden upfront. For options please give our office a call at 703-256-4500.
